Real world information forms the basis for effective safety policy and safety engineering design - and accident data is a major part of our profile. We have been conducting accident studies continuously since 1983 and are amongst the world leaders in our field. Expert teams conduct retrospective crash investigations for passive safety research (CCIS) and the Centre is one of a very small group that is able to reach crash scenes within a few minutes for road safety research using police blue light access (OTS).
We have also led the development of major international real-world road crash databases for road safety and passive safety research (PENDANT) and are currently co-ordinating the development of the new European Road Safety Observatory (SafetyNet). All of this valuable data continues to be analysed and routinely used for further research purposes.
