Overview: RISER was a 3 year Fifth Framework EC funded project which ran from January 2003 to December 2005. •The consortium consisted of 10 partners from manufacturing, research and governmental organisations in 9 European countries.
Objectives: To collect accident and performance data for the roadside environment , identify current design and maintenance practice and build up better guidelines based on the whole life cycle of roadside infrastructure to guide road designers.
Main features of project: RISER has delivered European based design and maintenance guidelines, a harmonisation of roadside hazard classification, collision data collection procedures, unique databases for single vehicle accidents, an analysis of the structural and human interactions, plus information supporting CEN and other standardisation activities.
Our role: The VSRC were responsible for developing and analysing the in-depth single vehicle accident database. Significant contribution was also made to developing the descriptive database and formulating best practice Design and Maintenance guidelines. |
