STandardisation of Accident and Injury Registration Systems

This project's aim is to try to develop a harmonised procedure for the in-depth investigation of crashes for the purposes of improving crashworthiness and safety regulations.

The European Commission has recognised the need for detailed crash injury data to support its decision making. The data needs to be sufficiently detailed to relate to current regulations; it must also be analysed to reflect crashes across Europe.

There are three main countries involved in this research, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

The key areas to be addressed include a core dataset, national crash population, data quality, data processing and exchange, statistical methods for data analysis, terminology and ethical considerations.
