National statistics show that, every year, the levels of traffic on the UK's roads increase, which inevitably leads to greater demands on the road infrastructure. Therefore, there is a greater need for roads which are more 'self-explaining' to the road user to help with accident prevention and roadsides which are more 'crash-friendly' to ensure minimum severity when accidents do inevitably occur.

We have experience in dealing with highway-related issues both through our on-scene accident investigation work and our significant involvement on European projects (RISER, TRACE, SafetyNet). The team can offer information and advice on safe road and roadside design, including information on the types of accidents which occur within different types of road environments.

Advice can also be provided in the areas of roadside safety (e.g. hazard identification, the use of passively safe roadside devices) and in the evaluation of other new innovations aimed to improve road and roadside safety (e.g. surface treatments, traffic control, poles, posts, barriers etc). Opinion on road maintenance issues which have an impact on road safety can also be provided.
